Lamb-sitting...

I've turned into a true Kiwi. Tonight I am lamb sitting a very sick little day old ram with fluid on the lungs and possibly a deformed spine. Not sure he's going to make it through the night.

Secondborn is taking him in to the clinic tomorrow to xray him to see if the spine is congenital or if he's just walking funny 'cause his mum rejected him and he'd dehydrated.

Poor little thing. He's so cute with the most awesome markings. Hope he makes it.

My cat was like that when we first got her (and God help the cat breeder if I ever go to Townsville)... except it was her back legs which were a bit deformed, not her spine.

She's fine now. I didn't get any sleep for about two weeks as she was dehydrated too, and needed attention every fifteen minutes or so... But she was worth it, and you can't tell at all that she was once ill.

Good luck with the lamb. He really is very cute!

We have had to recuperate a paralyzed chook since we have moved here, no lambs though.

UPDATE:

Picasso is alive and well. Secondborn is an awesome vet and thanks to the dedication of her nurses who spent all day looking after him, massive doses of antibiotics and diuretics, he is breathing, eating, running around like a real sheep and will now be kept as a pet, because other than being very pretty, he's finda useless as anything else.

Fortunately, his owner took him home last night so I didn't have to do the hourly feeding thing again all night.
