The Booklist review of The Immortal Prince

Wow, the Booklist has reviewed The Immortal Prince and put me up there in some pretty rarified company... Roger Zelazny, George R. R. Martin and Lois McMaster Bujold.

Not sure how to deal with such high praise, but I'll try to manage...:)

Here's the review:

Duchess of Lebec Arkady Desean is, anomalously in Amyrantha, which expects women to stay home, a university professor. She grew up in the slums alongside the human-animal hybrid slaves the Crasii but married the duke who is third in line to the throne of Glaeba. When a mass murderer who survived hanging claims to be the godlike Tide Lord Cayal the Immortal Prince heralded by Crasii mythology, the king's spymaster Declan Hawkes calls on Arkady, a childhood friend, for aid in finding the truth of the matter. Visiting Cayal in prison, Arkady and Cayal's fellow Crasii prisoner, canine-human Warlock, hear some of Cayal's 8,000-year history, which survives only fragmentarily in legend and tarot decks.

Fallon combines hidden identities, romantic tension, underground movements, a rising tide of magic, stories within stories, political machinations, a suicidal immortal, multiple secrets, top-notch world building, and fascinating mythology in a manner reminiscent of Roger Zelazny's classic Lord of Light (1967), George R. R. Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series, and Lois McMaster Bujold's Sharing Knife series. Tixier Herald, Diana.
