I have a Tide Lords question for you...It has occured to me, re-reading The Chaos Crystal, that there are some very big suprises in store, particularly for those of you who think you know where this series is going. Because this is the book where everything comes to a conclusion, and because it ends in a place I can promise you, nobody will pick*, I was wondering if the ending is going to seem completely left of centre, or if you have some inkling of what's going on. So here's a few general, non-spoiler questions for those of you have had read any of the Tide Lords series, and given the matter some thought... Q1: How old are the oldest immortals?
Q2: Where is Amyrantha?
Q3: Most Tide Lords...
And yes... all of these questions are relevant to the ending... Muwahahahaha... *Remember the title of my thesis - Subverting the Trope of Immortality.... hehehe
Comments
*watches this entry with great interest*
*hangs head in shame* I havent even read the first one yet...since its out in hardback and I've had to cut back on the budget for books...only paperbacks...and I try to only read completed series so I dont have to wait... *kicks a stone with her toe*...stupid publishers making us Americans wait on the good stuff...
I've read the three that are out so far, but it's been at least a few months since I've read them, so I'm approaching these questions with not the clearest of memories.
1. b 2. a, c, or d - it is Earth, many many years ago, and Lukys succeeded in his plan to make everyone worship him, disappear, and hope for his return (after killing all the other immortals so he could be 'the one true God') - which so far, hasn't happened. Although it does make me wonder what happened to the Crasii. But I think I remember that Lukys had a certain distaste for them, so eradication/genocide might be approaching. 3. b. Where are all the other people who've read the books?
Yes, Ms Fallon, this is all very interesting...
(People, beware, this is the woman who kills off major characters, she is capable of playing with our minds, just for the fun of it!).
Erm...I've only read The Immortal Prince - and that was about three months ago... Oh, go on, I'll give it a go :D
1. b? 2. b? (lol it'd be funny if it ended up in Earth :D) 3. c? Okay...tell me...how wrong am I?
Im gonna go with d, a and b....although the last one is kinda general and I think it could depend highly on the immortal specifically.
Q1: b
Q2: a Q3: a (maybe not EVERYTHING, but I would assume most things)
For a while i have suspected a possible ending for chaos crystal, but i thought it was too far our there. now that second question has seriously made me think that it could be possible. I think that Q2 is A, and that someone is gonna end up being transported to an alternate reality (EARTH!) maybe they get there and ask someone walking by, 'where am i?' and they answer somewhere obvious like syndey, london, new york, or somewhere. Thats my thinking anyway.
Hows that sound?
1. We don't have enough about them to say... and you've backed that. If pushed though I'd say 10,000 years--Lukys is too much the respected expert for Marlyce and her ilk to be older.
2. In a galaxy far, far away... or your imagination. If they arn't the same thing. Given i just went to one of your worldbuilding courses the map makes Earth impossible. Continental Drift wouldn't work properly if immortals had been flinging continaents about, and sadly your mapmaker is too talented to have missed that. That being said a future-earth thing might work at a push... especially with those perspective ages of immortals. Did an immortal end our world? Was it Osama bin Laden? Is he now Pelleys? 3. Umm... well, some i think speak nothing but the truth. Lukys for instance. Same with Maralyce. Most though lie through their annoyingly pretty white teeth. Of course, im one of those who thinks he knows where this is going, and am gonna be hit in the face with your topsy turvy final book. But then, that's why i read your books.
Hmmm..this may be a bit far out there...but if you've subverted the usual tropes of immortality... Maybe they end up in Death's realm, or something similar?
A bit far out there, but I'm sure a talented writer like yourself could pull it off!
So far...
Nobody got Q1 right, yet Q2 - The real answer isn't included in the list, but there are a couple of warmish suggestions about where this is going. Note I said "warmish". You really have no clue, do you... muwahahahaha... I think the best answer to Q3 is C. Maybe I should have had one that says "tells the truth leaving out important details that alters everything":)
you are truly evil.... my desperation for the next instalment has reached an all time high! Didnt think it was possible...
I've only read the the first one so far (desperately awaiting my order from Australia), but I'd probably go with:
1. c 2. c =] 3. b (at least I would've gone with this before you said it was c)
well, theres no way we can know (totally, though there is plent of room for informed guessing) how old the oldest tide lords are now because the eldest ones are much older then cayal, and hes the only one whose head we've seen inside...but id say many more thousands then they're telling us. Intrigued by question 2! though i do hope its not Earth...simple for our sakes!
so basically i say: 1) b 2) mysterious d 3) already been answered for us! so c.
I'm going to answer before reading eveyone elses, otherwise I know I'll change my mind.
Q1: How old are the oldest immortals? d) More than 1,000,000 years old Q2: b) In a galaxy far, far away Q3: c) ...only lie about the important things
Hmmm... You really do have me puzzled!
Reading that last comment of yours... I dunno why, but I was just thinking - and wondering! - maybe the story ends up in the world of *another* author...? Like...erm...Kyralia or Narnia or Kardiastan lol I'm probably wrong...I'm probably way wrong... But ya gotta admit, that would be pretty unpredictable and insane lol
I'm almost done with Palace of Impossible Dreams. Just for the fun of it, here goes nothing...
1 - C; Mostly a shot in the dark, since if Lukys ever mentioned when he and Engarhod were immolated, it was probably a lie. Still, 1,000,000 seems a little extreme. 2 - Based on a comment Cayal made in book one, and to a lesser extent some things Lukys mentioned in book two, I'm inclined to believe Amyrantha is Earth, not an alternate version of it. 3 - C, I suppose, even though the answer's been given away. Even so, it seems the Tide Lords typically don't see any point in lying unless they have an agenda (and they usually have something up their sleeves, so they lie all the time).
Wow, Question 2 is really intriguing!
I've always simple assumed it was C). But with that not the answer, it really has me scratching my head. Here is my wild theory thats probably way out in left field. Q2 D) Mars. Ok, Perhaps Amyrantha is ancient Mars. Luckys has been said to want to visit other planets and if memory serves me well it was hinted that he has already found a way. Perhaps he found Earth, a nearby planet that supports life, and wants to set up shop there. Transplanting some human subjects to be free of their past on Amyrantha and worship him as their one true God. But first he has wants to kill off the other tide lords to prevent any competition in the future. In the process of doing this another cataclysm occurs, bigger than ever before, completely destroying the world and knocking it clear out of its orbit. It then settles in Mars' current orbit further away from the sun and over the years it becomes the Mars we know and love. Meanwhile Human life is brought over to Earth and we all live happily ever after. Or... Perhaps its a trick question and the correct answer is D) COMPLETELY in Fallon's imagination. hehe.
I was just coming back here to see what everyone else said. I like Brad's idea about Mars.
I also had the thought that perhaps since they're all gathering at the icy place down at the bottom of the globe, they could melt it all accidently and have Noah's flood.
I should've bought the book when it came out.. arghh it was right in front of me on the shelf there!!
Oh well, I bought it a few days ago and i stayed up late last night getting up to Part 2 lol. *SPOILER* lol 1. d) they've been alive so long they've aged physically!! I mean that's gotta be more than a million years right :P (Kentie is cool) 2. b) I have a feeling they're gonna travel to Earth later on o.O" .. but I really don't know out of the three xD 3. c) i'm.. pretty sure it's this answer? or they just lie when they feel like it lol
