Another another one!

Another review for the DCT. This one from Dragons, Heroes and Wizards  which lists the series as Young Adult fantasy. Now I don't have a problem with that , it just find it hysterically funny that another reviewer on Amazon once posted the following about the same series:

This book contains violent rape and torture in multiple scenes. ...I think a good deal of fantasy readers have stumbled on this type of story before and many enjoy this formula... I never suspected what I was getting into.

It's all a matter of perpesctive... :)

Anyway, here's the review. And for thse wondeirng about the hardcover editions pictured yesterday (below), that's the magic of Photoshop, kiddies. :)

The Sisterhood of the Blade rules Medalon with a strict intolerance for religion of any kind. Supported by the Defenders, an elite force of knights sworn to the First Sister, the Sisterhood personifies the pitfalls involved in absolute power and absolute intolerance. But the Demon Child is coming. Destined to destroy a God, the Demon Child may just turn the entire world upside down in the process.

This series is set in an interesting world made up of 5 very different Kingdoms. Medalon where all forms of religion are forbidden, Karien where a Demon has made himself God and all other forms of religion are forbidden, Fardohnya where the Primal Gods are still worshiped and Hythria where the Primal Gods, especially the God of War are revered. And then there are the Harshini, created as a buffer between the Gods and humans, incapable of any negative emotion, a gentle race thought to have been wiped out by Medalon.

This series abounds with humor, romance, delightful characters you can't help but love,(or hate) and great worldbuilding. There is also plenty of drama, political intrigue, adventure, war, murder, betrayal, magic and best of all, Gods who love nothing better then to interfere directly in the lives of the characters. There were parts that made me laugh and parts that made me cry, parts that made me cheer and parts that made me very angry. Now that is what I call excellent writing.

There are some mature themes, rape, fairly gory murder, torture, some love scenes but they are more along the lines of talked about then described in any great detail. I HIGHLY recommend this series to any mature lover of fantasy.

If you want more detail about this wonderful series, please take a look at the individual book reviews.

Comments

I would call Phiilip Pullman's work young adult fantasy again what is young adult fantasy? I was reading LOTR when I was ten.

Thanks for adding my review! I'm honored.

I actually tagged it as Mature Young Adult which is a rating of my own but basically means nothing in the story is going to shock any teenager who watches TV, goes to the movies or plays video games. And I stand by that. Take the rape for example. We know there is a rape, that is made perfectly clear, we know there is abuse suffered as a result of the rape. You can see this much on any cop show, like Law and Order. What we don't see is the actual rape take place through the characters (and our) eyes. Again, you don't see that on TV either. Only the before and after.

So are there adult themes? Yes. Is it XXX rated? No. Will it shock a mature teen. No. Hey! Then let them read it!

But like you said. Its a matter of opinion. Thanks again!

Thanks for the review Mulluane! I'm gald you liked the series.

And for the record, I think you're closer to the mark than the Amazon review:)

I read these books when I was an older teen...they didn't shock me one bit.
