A word from "the new Robin Hobb"

With all the hype going on around The Tide Lords series, I forget sometimes, that in the US, the Demon Child and Wolfblade trilogies (the 6 books published under the Hythrun Chronicles banner) are only just coming to the end of their release schedule. Warlord is due out in paperback next month, after which, (hopefully) the fun will start with the Tide Lords.

So the books still garner the occasional review from reviewers who are just discovering my work, and it's nice to report that they're all good (at least the ones that I've seen). It seems nobody has wanted to host a telethon rather than read my stuff for, like, ages...  LOL

So, here is a brief except from the Beezer Review about Medalon. I suggest you check this site out, because not only is the reviewer clearly a man of outstandingly good taste (he gave Medalon 5 stars...hehehe) but he has quite a comprehensive listing of reviews that are - to quote a particularly irritating news network - fair and balanced, in that they offer the good with the not so good and are not just gushy drivel or unrelenting criticism. The full review is here, but here's an except:

The characters in this novel are as deep and rich as the story. Much like the multiple plots, there are also a plethora of characters as well. The main characters are Tarja and R’shiel who are a Defender and a probate in the Sisterhood respectively. Along the way they meet many, many people. I was trying to come up with a way to really talk about the characters and such without spoiling anything, but I have come to realize to really talk about them would spoil things for the reader. So, please excuse the generic discussion. All the characters in this book have some character development. The main two, Tarja and R’shiel, obviously have the most development but it is fantastic progression. All the dialogue for the characters is believable and allows each character to have his or her own voice. Each characters actions seem to hinge on the character’s own personal motivations and convictions. Not only that, but Ms. Fallon’s writing quickly drew me into caring about the characters and what happened to them. Simply put, these characters were a joy to read about.

The second review is from the Seven Foot Shelves review blog and starts the review of the Wolfbalde series with the following:

Jennifer Fallon is the new Robin Hobb. Those of you who have read some Robin Hobb will know that means Ms. Fallon is a Mistress of Angst. Oh gods does she ever know how to set up the impossible situations and pluck the heart strings. Couple that with a very interesting story, a solid world, great characters and enough wit to make you chuckle from time to time… and you’ve got an excellent trilogy.

I've met Robin Hobb and the last time we had lunch we discovered we had so much in common we spent the whole lunch like Romy and Michelle going "Oh, my God! Me too!".

Apparently we have more in common than we realised:)

Comments

For some reason or another, I read that heading as "the new Robin Hood"...

Fallon in tights? Jenny leading her band of Merry Men on more shenanigans? Hmmm...

My one dare ask where word of the day has gone? The whole home page looks different now O_o
I could just see a Dace running around with a bow and arrows leading a band of Merry Men (ie. minions) on his valient quests. And Jenny too, of course.

Ah... the word of the day

It was proving a little bit too high maintenance to keep running at the moment. Don't worry, it will be back but probably not until later in the year.. As for the rest of it...We decided to clean up the front page a bit No biggie:)
