Even back when nobody else agreed with me, I have always maintained the best Star Wars movie was The Empire Strikes Back, followed closely by the original movie. Once we started getting Ewoks, and phantom menaces, the franchise started to go downhill, I fear, although I thought in Revenge of the Sith the moment between when the mask goes on and Darth Vader takes his first breath was pretty cool.

We will not , however, even speak about the nonsense that is the latest incarnation of Stars Wars - The Quest for More Money The Clone Wars.

And it seems I'm not the only one who holds this opinion. There is a poll running on the SFX site, asking exactly that question.

Given this poll is being taken on the site of the UK's most popular SF mag, I just love the fact that the highest vote is from readers who don't even like Star Wars. :)

I like Empire Strikes Back followed by the original un-mucked-up Star Wars (and let's have none of this New Hope crap either.)

I'd say that 44% who don't like it probably started with Episode I, spewed all over their popcorn, and have never looked back (or down, for that matter.)

without ruining it for everyone else. wow, I could never have predicted it would end the way it did. It's a strange but fantastic way to end it, and you've managed to suprise me all over again. It now joins my 12 other books of yours on my bookshelf. Which is very overcrowed at the moment.

I thought this article was very well written and sums up for me why a lot of people who read quality sci-fi probably aren't necessarily great fans of Star Wars (certainly not the newer ones).

Speaking as a hard-core SW fan, I love "Revenge of the Sith" and "The Empire Strikes Back." I love the Han/Leia aspect of the old trilogy. Anakin/Padme makes me sick--could they have tried any harder??

I think it's the love-hate relationships that I love. *cough* write-more-about-Adrina-and-Damin *cough* ;)
