Hercules... the hoax?
My mother used to tell me that no matter how bad you thought your lot in life was, there was always someone who had it worse.
This phrase leapt to mind earlier this evening, when Mount Bruce (all 45 kgs of Mount Bruce) decided the only place in the whole house he wanted to sit, was on my lap. So there I am, being slowly crushed to death by this mountain of canine muscle-did I mention how much this wretched puppy weighs?-when Secondborn (who was sitting comfortably on the couch across the room, mind you, surfing the net on her laptop - hence the reason Bruce opted for my lap) declares "Oh my God!" This phrase, uttered out of the blue, tends to get one's attention. Trying to look over the top of Bruce, wondering how long my oxygen would last, I asked her what at prompted her exclamation. "You are never allowed to complain about how big Bruce is again," she told me. "Someone just emailed me this. Check it out." ![]() This, apparently, is Hercules, the largest dog in the world. He's an English Mastiff with a 38-inch neck and 282 pounds of pure dog. I was suitably impressed, and Bruce started to look like a puppy again. But then, after Bruce spotted JoJo the cat and decided he liked the idea of having his nose shredded, so he chased after her, I went and did some checking. Seems Hercules might be a digitally enhanced hoax. At least that's what doginthenews.com reckons. So, is he, or isn't he? I don't have a copy of the Guiness Book of Records and they don't list world records on their site (probably to make you, well, buy the book), but I'd really like to know, now, if this is legit... Does anybody out there know the truth? Is he real? Who is the biggest dog in the world, if it isn't our buddy Herc? And if Bruce doesn't stop eating... will he become a contender...? I have to knoooooow..... If you'd like to vote for my daily ramblings, follow the link on the Blogger's Choice logo. You do have to register to vote, but it only takes a minute or two.

Hey, thanks for that Blue. I was emailed that image at work a week or two back thought 'no WAY - couldn't be!' but then didn't do anything with it. MUST REMEMBER SNOPES :)
