Cars, Karma and Roadkill

Random observations from my trip…

  • Kangaroos are smarter in the NT than in South Australia. Way fewer of them become roadkill.
  • The wedge-tailed eagles in SA are fatter than their Territorian cousins. More roadkill to eat, I suppose.
  • Best road sign in SA is just outside Cadney Park Roadhouse. It says:
“Please stop for coffee and something to eat, otherwise we’ll starve”.
  • South Australia is the only place I have ever been where they paint runway markings on major highways so the Royal Flying Doctor Service can land on the highway in an emergency.
  • Underground hotel rooms are really, really dark and it’s very easy to oversleep when you don’t realise the sun is up
  • The worst coffee in South Australia comes from the Glendambo Roadhouse.
  • According to the sign on the edge of town, there are 50,000 sheep, 50,000,000 flies and 30 humans in Glendambo (none of whom know how to make coffee).
  • The best coffee in SA so far comes from Wendy’s Ice Cream Parlour in Port Augusta.

Oh, and finally…

  • If you cut me off by turning onto the highway in front of me and then try to annoy me by sitting on my ass for the next 100 klms, your engine will blow up.
And all I will do is smile and wave as I sail past you…

Karma’s a bitch, ain't it:)

Does that make ACT 'roos the idiot ones?

I'm from Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs and I'd like to make a claim for the smartest kangaroos.

The drought has enouraged all sorts of wildlife to head for the suburbs (bloody ducks crapping in my pool).

Last week my wife saw a kangaroo bounding down the footpath - near as she could tell it was heading for the Seven-Eleven. We're thinking Slurpy or Vanilla Coke (you know how kangaroos are).

We're not sure what it was going to do for money, but a Liquorland was rolled recently. I'm just saying...

you kow, Chris has been here for 3 years now, and has yet to see a kangaroo other than the roadkill.

You know, there isn't a single friend of mine that lives in the ACT that hasn't hit a 'roo. One unfortunate friend closed her eyes on impact (to avoid haunting 'running into roos' flashbacks') only to watch the truck that was trailing 100 metres behind finish off the job...
